How long have you been in business?
At the beginning of July, 2009, my brother and I started Dup-A-Key. We had worked for another locksmith outfit in town, and we decided it was time to venture out on our own.
What is your primary product or service?
Car keys, and car chip key replacement and duplication. We also do many high security laser cut sidewinder keys for european and japanese imports, key extraction, trunk openings, car rekeys, residential lockpicks, and house lock rekeys.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
We worked for another locksmith company that was contracted with AAA Southern California and we have extensive experience in automotive locksmith issues and solutions because of it. After running in this crew for a number of years, we decided to be our own boss, and extend our expertise to more high security vehicles, residential, and commercial locksmith work.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
When you call Dup-A-Key, you are talking to a locksmith, not a dispatcher. This way, we can diagnose your problem together and you can get an accurate time of arrival. There is no middle man.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
We expanded! We know have a store front in addition to our mobile service! Our shop at 1478 Garnet in the heart of Pacific Beach has been open since February 2011 and we hired our first employee in September 2011. Way to go Dup-A-Key!

1478 Garnet Ave. The cross street is Haines. We're in a little shopping center with about eight parking spaces. Our business neighbors are Mr. Frostie, RT's Longboard Grill, Bike Shop Chris.
